Murphy is recruiting for a Senior Buyer to work with the Energy Team on National Grid, Substation Projects.

A day in the life of a Murphy Procurement Manager

  • Deliver procurement of key materials and subcontract packages for a major Energy sector project in the North of England including (but not limited to): Procurement & Supply Chain Strategy, Supply Chain Management, Operational Procurement and procurement of key materials and subcontract packages 
  • Line Manager to procurement resources as appointed including day to day activities, training & development and performance reviews
  • Coordinate with the project team and embed procurement within the project.
  • Travel to project site as required. The role will be based between a regional office with regular visits to the project sites.
  • Manage project procurement requirements including procurement schedule, drafting Invitation to Tenders, analysing tender returns and making contract award recommendations, in conjunction with project team. 
  • Project purchasing prioritisation and management. 
  • Support the commercial team with negotiating subcontract and purchase order terms and conditions including NEC3/4.
  • Liaising between suppliers, manufacturers, relevant internal departments and customers.
  • Developing market knowledge and contacts for new products and services, identifying potential new entrants to the supply chain.
  • Monitor the supply chain workload and financial status to manage performance risks and opportunities.

  • MCIPS or similar.
  • Experience of operational subcontract procurement.
  • Experience within a project based construction/engineering procurement or commercial role.
  • Commercially astute (NEC).
  • Experience in substation, overhead line and/or underground cabling work streams preferred.
