The Role:
The SHES Manager for the Power Division will be responsible for leading and managing all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) aspects across projects involving Power infrastructure – LV/MV/HV Overhead and underground power networks and substations, renewables (Solar and Wind) and electrical services.
The Manager will lead a team of SHES Advisors on various power projects nationwide.
This role ensures compliance with all relevant legislation, standards, and company policies while promoting a proactive safety culture.
The Manager will report directly to the Head of SHES for Energy and Industry.
Main Duties:
- Maintain and implement the Murphy Safety, Environmental, and Quality Management Systems, ensuring compliance with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001.
- Champion the Murphy Culture Development Programme (behaviour-based safety).
- Develop and deliver HSE strategies across power-related projects, ensuring compliance with Irish legislation, Client rules / codes of practice, and industry standards.
- Conduct and document regular site audits, inspections, risk assessments, and performance reviews.
- Lead investigations into incidents, near-misses, and non-conformances, ensuring root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
- Monitor environmental impact and ensure compliance with sustainability goals and environmental regulations.
- Provide expert guidance and leadership to site teams, management, and subcontractors on all HSE matters.
- Deliver targeted training, inductions, and toolbox talks specific to high-risk activities
- Maintain accurate HSE records, reports, and KPIs, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Stay up to date and advise senior management on relevant legislation, standards, and industry best practices.
- Liaise with clients, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders to ensure full compliance with legal and contractual obligations.
- Identify significant hazards and support the implementation of appropriate control measures.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Degree in Health & Safety
- Minimum of 5 years relevant experience on Power Infrastructure Projects (transmission, distribution including substations).
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with one or more teams.
- Good written and spoken communication abilities.
- Good IT skills with a high attention to detail
- A flexible and proactive approach
- Demonstrate leadership skills
- Proven track record in highly regulated environments
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Full clean driving licence; willingness to travel to sites across Ireland.
