Murphy is recruiting for a Principal Utility Surveyor to work with our Applied Engineering team based out of Hemel Hempstead.
We’re looking for a Principal Utility Mapping Surveyor to lead the development of our newly formed Utility Mapping team within MAE Geomatics. This is a rare opportunity to shape a department from the ground up, delivering high-quality PAS128-compliant surveys across internal infrastructure projects.
Our engineering teams represent a multi-disciplined range of engineering skills, adding value across all our sectors, and pushing the boundaries of digital construction, engineering innovation and design to deliver intelligent, sustainable and economical engineering solutions.
Under the banner of Applied Engineering, our in-house teams include civil, structural, mechanical, geotechnical and process engineers. They design both permanent and temporary works for projects in all our locations and are a trusted source of expert advice for both Murphy colleagues and external customers.
A day in the life of a Murphy Principal Utility Surveyor:
- Lead and manage utility mapping operations across the UK
- Develop team structure, workflows, and standards
- Liaise with internal clients to scope, quote, and deliver projects
- Oversee GIS data management and QA of deliverables
- Promote subsurface services (e.g., CCTV, rebar scanning) within Murphy

- ProQual Level 6 Diploma in Utility Mapping and Surveying
- SMSTS and CSCS Black Card
- Strong experience in GPR, EML, GPS, and GIS platforms
- Post-Processing of GPR data.
- Proven leadership in utility mapping and commercial project management
- Full UK driving licence
