Murphy is recruiting for an People Assistant to join our team at BMJV (Bouygues Murphy Joint Venture) to work on delivering the UK’s longest road tunnel beneath the River Thames, the exciting Lower Thames Crossing project.

 

The Lower Thames Crossing (LTC) is one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure projects.  LTC is a new road that will connect Kent and Essex through a tunnel beneath the River Thames and will be the greenest road ever built in the UK - creating six times more green space than road. The reliable new route will almost double road capacity over the river east of London to reduce congestion and give millions of people more choice on where they live, work and spend their valuable time.

A day in the life of a Murphy People Assistant

  • Act as a first point of contact for BMJV staff, responding to queries in a timely and professional manner
  • Manage queries via email, phone and in person, escalating where appropriate
  • Administer onboarding, compliance processes, competency checking as required
  • Support end-to-end onboarding processes including new starter administration and inductions
  • Administer compliance requirements including right-to-work checks, documentation tracking and competency validation
  • Ensure all records are accurate, complete, and compliant with audit requirements
  • Assist in preparing people reports and management information
  • Support tracking of key metrics (e.g. onboarding, diversity, training compliance)
  • Provide administrative support for audits and inspections
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and enhance efficiency
  • Support people-related initiatives including onboarding improvements, engagement activities, and system implementation
  • Work collaboratively with the wider People & Culture team on the Joint Venture, line managers and Client Team
  • Support the People & Culture Team in successfully delivering People KPIs

  • Experience in an administrative or HR support role
  • Experience working in a confidential environment with sensitive data
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong communication skills and a teamplayer
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Experience in construction, infrastructure, or project-based environments
  • Proficient in PowerBI
  • Digital mindset, able to quicky learn new system

What happens next

  • We aim to review your application within 1–2 weeks, depending on volumes of applicants
  • If you are shortlisted, we’ll invite you to a short chat to learn more about you and give you a chance to ask questions
  • This is followed by 1 to 2 rounds of interviews, which may include a task, depending on the role. For more senior positions, you might also meet additional members of the team but we’ll let you know in advance if that’s the case
  • We aim to make final decisions within 3-4 weeks.
