Murphy is recruiting for a Project Engineer to join our growing Infrastructure team, delivering water infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects in partnership with Thames Water, as part of the AMP8 framework.

 

Murphy is a long-standing delivery partner to leading water clients across the UK and Ireland, including Thames Water, Severn Trent, Northern Ireland Water, Yorkshire Water, SES Water, Bristol Water, South East Water, and Uisce Éireann, where we operate over 25 facilities under full DBOM contracts.

 

A day in the life of a Murphy Project Engineer

  • Be accountable for ensuring all engineering shifts are adequately resourced. Organize and allocate engineering resources to fulfil various roles, ensuring holidays and sick leave are covered
  • Manage engineering resources falling short of expectations with constructive improvement plans and acknowledge those exceeding expectations promoting growth and development.
  • Technical Support: Coordinate and provide site engineering technical input to works for the operational and engineering team. Support project managers and senior engineers with planning of the works.
  • Maintain a high standard of progressive quality assurance across the project(s), including creating and reviewing Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) and Inspection Test Check sheets (ITCs).
  • Champion the use of Dalux and Aconex in delivery of the project.
  • Ensure apprentice and graduate engineers in the team gain relevant experience and achieve their university and operational site goals, maintain the mentorship programme and make adjustments where required
  • Ensure teams manage materials on site and any specific requirements for testing. Educating teams on their individual areas of focus.
  • Ensure PDRs are carried out effectively, for all site engineering staff.
  • Competent in the use of Surveying equipment such as Total Stations, GPS, level’s etc for setting out and as-built information and able to provide guidance to junior engineers on their usage. 
  • Act as the Lead Temporary Work’s Co-Ordinator for the project, ensuring design briefs are undertaken, undertaking constructability reviews of TW designs and ensuring TWS’ are undertaking inspections as required
  • Ensuring the engineering deliverables for on site works are completed in good time to allow works to progress in line with the programme
  • Review / Undertake material take off’s from drawings, ensure all materials ordered to site are suitable, stored in line with manufacturer’s recommendations and meet contract specification or project requirements. 
  • Draft Scope for ITTs for engagement with the market and for subcontractor works.

  • Experience in Construction or Civil Engineering projects.
  • Experience with ITPs, RAMs & Temporary Works.
  • Ability and confidence to communicate and present to Internal Management, Delivery Partners and Senior level clients.
  • Excellent knowledge of current civil engineering legislation as well as Health & Safety and Environmental legislation.
  • Ability and confidence to discuss engineering issues with people across various levels and disciplines.
  • Ability to produce, implement and manage safe systems of work for construction procedures.
