Murphy is recruiting for a Mechanical Project Manager | Cork to work with our Energy and Industry team in Cork.

The Mechanical Project Manager will support the Energy and Industry business by providing technical expertise during both the tender development and project delivery phases. The role will initially focus on tender-stage technical input and will transition into project execution, supporting the delivery, commissioning, and handover of mechanical systems in energy, data centre, and regulated pharmaceutical environments
What we are looking for (Qualifications and skills)
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 8 years’ relevant experience in a Mechanical Engineering or Project Management role, preferably within the Energy, Life Sciences, Data Centre (Energy Centre), Pharmaceutical, Industrial Facilities, or Gas sectors.
- Proven experience working in regulated or high-compliance environments, with a strong understanding of QA/QC requirements and quality management systems.
- Demonstrable experience managing mechanical commissioning, project turnover, and handover activities, including completion of associated documentation and transition to operations.
- Proven track record of delivering multidisciplinary projects safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Strong experience in project planning, scheduling, resource allocation, cost control, risk management, and change management.
- Experience leading and coordinating multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and subcontractors within live operational environments.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with experience engaging clients, operational teams, and senior management.
- Strong commercial and contractual awareness, including budget management, forecasting, cost reporting, and performance monitoring.
- Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of health, safety, environmental, and quality compliance.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with a focus on continuous improvement and successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate daily project activities to ensure the safe, efficient, and successful delivery of project works.
- Manage site teams, supervisors, engineers, contractors, and subcontractors to achieve project objectives.
- Monitor project progress against programme milestones and implement corrective
- Chair project meetings and provide regular progress updates to clients, stakeholders, and senior management.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, quality, and contractual requirements.
- Oversee labour, plant, materials, and equipment to support project delivery and productivity.
- Review and approve work packs, method statements, risk assessments, and project documentation.
- Manage project budgets, cost tracking, forecasting, and change control processes.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks, issues, and potential delays.
- Develop work package pricing documentation and agree commercial terms with clients prior to commencement of works.
- Coordinate engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover activities.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients, suppliers, contractors, and project stakeholders.
- Ensure project records, reports, and documentation are maintained accurately and in a timely manner.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and promote best practices across the project team.
- Support project close-out activities, including completion of final documentation, lessons learned reviews, and handover to operations.
