Murphy is recruiting for a Materials Expeditor to work with Energy at Leeds.

The role of Materials Expeditor is to ensure a consistent and effective approach to materials quality control and expediting activities, such that vendor compliance, inspection, testing, certification and material release requirements are achieved in accordance with project and company requirements.
The Materials Expeditor shall report to the QC, Materials & Expediting Manager and shall work in close liaison with the Specialist Materials Team to support the effective execution of materials quality and expediting activities.

A day in the life of a Materials Expeditor

  • Vendor Inspection & Expediting activities for specialist mechanical piping materials supplied by vendors and subcontractors.
  • Attend periodic supplier inspections, FATs and quality release activities in the UK and overseas.
  • Review vendor documentation including material certification, ITPs, test records and manufacturing dossiers to confirm compliance with project requirements.
  • Ensure all required inspections, testing and verification activities are completed in line with Purchase order and Specification prior to material release.
  • Work closely with The Specialist Materials Team and vendors to resolve technical or quality issues affecting manufacture, release or delivery.
  • Identify, escalate and manage non-conformances, delays or documentation issues through established quality processes.
  • Produce and maintain accurate expediting reports, inspection status reports and release records in support of project delivery.
  • Support the Specialist Materials Team in ensuring materials quality and traceability requirements are achieved in accordance with project specification and company procedures.
  • Ensure activities are carried out in accordance with applicable Codes and Standards, Statutory Regulations and Company Procedures.
  • The role includes regular visits to vendor premises in the UK and overseas in line with project requirements.

  • Proven experience in vendor expediting, materials coordination, inspection or quality activities within oil & gas, pipelines, energy or similarly regulated engineering sectors.
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical piping materials including pipe, fittings, flanges, valves and fabricated assemblies.
  • Experience reviewing material certification, vendor documentation, inspection records and manufacturing dossiers.
  • Experience coordinating inspections, FATs, release activities and supplier progress.
  • Able to read and interpret drawings, specifications, datasheets and ITPs.
  • Good understanding of materials traceability, quality control and release requirements within mechanical piping projects.
  • Experience working with gas network operators such as National Gas, Cadent or similar clients is advantageous but not essential.
  • Experience with structural steelwork and EN 1090 requirements would be beneficial, but is not essential.
  • Good working knowledge of applicable industry codes, standards and quality processes.
