Main Purpose of Role:
Owing to continued growth in our Power Division, Murphy Electrical Services have a requirement for an Electrical Quantity Surveyor/Estimator who will be responsible for all commercial functions from work winning through to commercial administration of electrically biased projects. The role will involve pricing tenders, compiling and pricing BOQ’s, compiling take off’s on a range of Electrical projects including (but not limited to):
- Renewables (Solar, wind, BESS)
- Water & wastewater
- Natural gas
- Public Lighting
- Building Services
- EV charging projects
- Electrical and Instrumentation
Role Duties:
- Receipt of invitations to tender for electrical packages of work
- Producing estimates in conjunction with the operational team for electrical invitations to tender
- Commercial administration of electrical projects once they have been secured including but not limited to:
- Establishment of project folders
- Establishment of project budget
- Making applications for payments
- Valuation of variations and additional items of work
- Tracking and reporting on costs
- Providing commercial and contractual guidance as part of the delivery team
- Ensure each tender is completed consistently and in line with company procedure.
- Gain knowledge of actual installation time and review projects after completion to evaluate where actual is not in line with budgeted.
- Assist as part of the estimating team to successfully achieve the business unit’s revenue plan by assisting with the production of accurate and timely estimates. Liaising with other employees within the company to identify, share and implement best practice.
- Prepare each tender in a consistently structured and accurate format in line with company policies, standards and processes, with appropriate consideration of all foreseeable construction, technical and commercial risks.
- Produce accurate take off / measures of tenders and subsequent inputting into estimating software to ensure that the prime cost of the project is fully understood.
- Vet enquiries received in order to comply with the preparation and dispatch of accurate supplier / subcontract enquiries to the timescales dictated. Work with specialist subcontractors and assess quotations with a view to validating the information received and confirming that it is spec compliant.
- Preparing Product Substitution and Value Engineering options.
- Gain up to date knowledge of the market place regarding the level of pricing, competition and volume of work to ensure that relevant and competitive estimates are consistently prepared.
Qualifications & Skills
- Degree qualified Quantity Surveyor or Engineer who can demonstrate a background of estimating/pricing work in the Electrical Services Industry.
- Experience in estimating software’s such as Candy, would be a distinct advantage
