Murphy is recruiting for a Estimator (Structural Steel) to work with our Natural Resources team on in Newbridge
We maintain, operate, modify, design, construct and commission new energy networks and facilities across four countries; guiding our customers through the challenges of the energy transition and supporting their commitments to achieve net zero emissions. We provide safe and reliable specialist services as a trusted Engineering, Procure, Fabrication, Maintain and Decommissioning (EPFCM&D) partner. This includes work with onshore and offshore oil, gas pipelines, gas diversions and renewable energies.
What you will be doing:
- Prepare accurate estimates in conjunction with the work winning team
- Review tender drawings and documents to determine the scope of works and tender deliverables
- Attend tender start-up, mid bid and adjudication meetings and make site visits as required.
- Prepare BOQs for scopes of projects
- Produce enquiry schedules for suppliers and subcontractors required from the tender documentation, drawings and specifications issued.
- Evaluate returned quotations from suppliers and where necessary enter correspondence with suppliers to bring quotations in line with the project specification requirements.
- Input to project risk register and attends a project risk meeting in the presence of Estimators, Planning Engineers, Design Co-ordinators and Clients representatives.
- Ensure correct use of contract Schedule of Rates where required.
- Attend post tender negotiations with client.
- Attend Tender Handover meetings in the presence of Estimators and projects team.
- Prepare commercial documents for tender handover to projects team.
- Maintain and update estimating templates, cost databases and tracking systems.
- Input into internal and client reports.
- Maintain good working relations with client, together with our supply chain.
Who we are looking for:
- Degree qualified Quantity Surveyor or Engineer
- Minimum 5 years' experience within the structural steel industry.
- Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication, construction processes, and commercial practices.
- Proven ability to interpret structural engineering & architectural drawings, including complex steel structures.
- Excellent knowledge of methods of measurement, quantity take-offs, and cost estimation.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment and consistently meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
Desirable Experience:
- Previous involvement in bridge steelwork projects or other large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Experience working on complex and technically challenging structural steel contracts.
