Engineering Lead – Transportation, Infrastructure and Ground Engineering:
Murphy is recruiting for an Engineering Lead to join the Transportation, Infrastructure and Ground Engineering (T,I & GE) Business Unit. This is a key leadership role supporting the delivery of Design & Build transportation and infrastructure projects across the island of Ireland, as well as Ground Engineering projects across Great Britain and Ireland.
The Engineering Lead will report directly to the T,I & GE Managing Director and will be responsible for leading and driving all engineering initiatives within the business unit. The successful candidate will manage a team of Engineering Designers, Design Managers, and Document Controllers, promoting innovation and best practice across both live projects and tender activities.
The role will also be accountable for ensuring that all live projects comply with required quality standards, procedures, and governance requirements. The Engineering Lead will work closely with project teams to ensure that robust quality processes are established and maintained, including the effective implementation of Dalux software for the management of Inspection and Test Checklists, Non-Conformance Reports, on site.
What you will be doing:
- Implement and promote the Better Engineered strategic objective within the business unit,
- Lead and drive engineering initiatives within the business unit,
- Promote and lead engineering innovation solutions to our clients,
- Manage and actively pursue performance improvement of the engineering capability and function, assisting in establishing and implementing best practice policies and procedures for the function,
- Manage the business unit design function,
- Take a proactive role in the management of careers and the learning & development of all engineering staff, including carrying out personal development reviews of reportees,
- Work closely with engineering institutions and manage the professional qualifications in conjunction with the learning & development team,
- Support the business unit in work winning as the Engineering leader in bids, with the application of engineering, design management and quality,
- Lead the engineering design delivery to projects to contribute a clear view for delivering engineering, design management and quality,
- Involvement in the development of Business Unit and Group Design Management continual process improvement activities
- Review design pack submissions as required for technical compliance, quality and completeness.
- Actively pursue performance improvement of the engineering capability and function,
- Manage compliance with Standards and Client requirements and assist in monitoring to ensure working to standard requirements.
- Ensure an understanding of, and an influence on the contracts Design Consultants are working under including their fees, schedule of services, programme, and liabilities and warranties.
- Review and liaise with internal Temporary Works Coordinators and Designers to ensure appropriate consideration of constructability and required permanent works.
- Review the allocation of engineering resources to support the business,
- Keep management informed of business area activity and progress achieved,
- Advise on the recruitment of engineers and design managers to support the business requirements,
- Engage with universities and support the annual graduate recruitment,
- Supporting the improvement of working practices including integration of digital (and data management) capability will be a key focus area
- Ensure Quality benchmarks are maintained at a high standard,
- Establish and promote best practice in health, safety and environmental matters in conjunction with the SHESQ department.
Who we are looking for?
- Chartered Engineer
- Civil Engineering Degree
- Experience in a leadership role in the engineering function of a major contractor engaged in large civil engineering projects
- Exposure in a technical leadership role on major infrastructure projects and programmes
- Knowledge of project management process gained through successful experience of contract management
- Appreciation and understanding of the professional development process for civil engineer
