Murphy is recruiting a General Operative to work with our site teams with the view of progressing onto the Skilled Utilities Traineeship at Mount Lucas, a 13‑month programme that equips you with hands‑on experience, essential safety training, industry‑recognised tickets, and a CABWI Level 2 Diploma, preparing you for a long‑term, high‑skilled career in utilities.

 

Main Purpose of Role:

  • You will join us as a General Operative, carrying out a variety of manual and support tasks to keep daily operations running smoothly.
  • Upon successfully completing all required ability tests, you may be selected to progress onto our 13‑month Skilled Utilities Operator Traineeship.
  • This traineeship is designed to develop the foundations for a long-term career in construction and utilities:
    • Through hands‑on site placements and simulated training, you will gain the skills, safety knowledge, and qualifications needed to work confidently on our projects.
    • You will rotate between 11-12 weeks of training at Mount Lucas and 11-12 weeks of on‑site work placements.
    • On successful completion of the programme, you will move into a skilled General Operative role within our site teams.
    • Please note: this traineeship requires travel between Mount Lucas (Offaly) and assigned site locations throughout the programme.

 

Role Duties

  • Maintain a high level of Health & Safety, including correct use of PPE.
  • Support site teams with excavation, reinstatement, pipe laying and general utilities tasks.
  • Follow instructions, work procedures and safe systems of work.
  • Help meet daily and weekly work targets while maintaining quality standards.
  • Keep the work area clean, organised and safe.
  • Actively participate in all training phases and site placements.

 

Qualifications & Skills

  • Must be 18+, reliable and willing to work in an outdoor environment.
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • No previous experience required - full training is provided.
  • Safe Pass & Manual Handling (can be obtained during training).
  • Please be advised you may be required to travel.
