Electrical Engineer Apprenticeship Programme 

As an Electrical Engineer apprentice, you will gain an industry recognised Level 4 qualification in Electrical Engineering whilst gaining valuable skills learning on the job with one of our long serving experienced teams.  

 

Typical duties will include:

The Substation Commissioning Technician will work closely with the Commissioning Engineer to support the successful delivery of substation projects. This role involves hands-on testing, documentation, and system activation, ensuring all work aligns with the project's technical specifications. The technician will also provide technical guidance to the project management and site teams, and offer limited supervisory support to the Site Manager when required.

  • Assist the Commissioning Engineer with system testing, fault simulation, and equipment verification
  • Interpret and apply project-specific technical requirements accurately during commissioning activities
  • Conduct visual inspections and assessments of primary plant equipment
  • Carry out inspections in accordance with the Inspection and Test Plan in a timely manner
  • Support the site team with technical queries and troubleshooting throughout design, build, and commissioning phases
  • Resolve technical problems at all levels, ensuring timely and effective solutions
  • Assist with the production of emergency return-to-service procedures

 

Where will I be based on the apprenticeship?

  • This role will be based out of either Willesden & Kensel Green Substations or EGL1 Hawthorn Piyt and Nortan Substations / Yorkshire Green: Monk Fryston and Overton Substation / EGL2 Drax Substation.

  • Due to the nature of the role you will be expected to travel to various sites, and this may also involve working away.    

 

What do I need to be considered for the apprenticeship?

  • GCSE Maths and English at grade A*- C / 4-9 (or equivalent) 

  • You will need to be over 18 years of age 

  • You don’t need to have previous experience for the role, but you do need to be ready to learn, have a positive mindset and a can-do attitude! 

  • Eligible to work in the UK with a valid work permit if applicable. Please note, that we do not provide sponsorship.
