Murphy is recruiting for a Graduate Mechanical Design Engineers to work with our Water team.
We provide end-to-end services for major water and sewage companies such as Northern Ireland Water, Thames Water, Severn Trent Water, Yorkshire Water and United Utilities, and for several water-only companies including SES Water, Bristol Water and South East Water.
We also provide a full design, build, operate and maintain service for Uisce Éireann and we currently operate over 25 of their facilities, ensuring they run efficiently and comply fully with EPA regulations.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Support the design team in developing mechanical systems and components, from concept through to detailed design.
- Assist in producing and reviewing engineering drawings, models, and specifications using CAD software.
- Contribute to solving technical design challenges through analysis, calculations, and engineering best practice.
- Participate in design reviews, ensuring compliance with project requirements, industry standards, and company procedures.
- Assist in preparing and maintaining accurate design documentation in line with the Quality Management System.
- Support the selection of materials and components, ensuring suitability, performance, and compliance with specifications.
- Carry out basic engineering calculations and simulations to validate design solutions.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (including site, manufacturing, and procurement) to ensure designs are practical and deliverable.
- Help track design progress, support reporting, and contribute to achieving project milestones and KPIs.
- Ensure all work is completed using the latest revisions of drawings, models, and technical documents.
Entry Requirements
- Degree qualified Mechanical Engineer (or set to graduate by Sept 2026)
- Strong interest in mechanical design and engineering development.
- Experience with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar).
- Understanding of engineering fundamentals (e.g., materials, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics).
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
- Knowledge of relevant standards and design practices (desirable

Additional Requirements
- You need a full Irish driving licence due to the locations of projects.
- Eligible to work in the Ireland with a valid work permit if applicable. Please note, we do not provide sponsorship.
