Murphy is recruiting for a Design Manager to work with our Energy and Industry team in Newbridge.

What you will be doing:
- Lead the design management and coordination of structural steel packages across building and infrastructure projects, from early engagement through detailed design and into fabrication and construction.
- Lead Design Management activities at tender, Early Contractor Involvement, and pre‑construction stages, ensuring appropriate resourcing and clear scope definition across design phases.
- Coordinate multiple interfaces including internal steel designers, external consulting engineers, connection designers, temporary works designers, fabricators, and site teams.
- Act as the Design Lead for structural steel on assigned projects, ensuring design information is suitably managed, coordinated, and issued in line with programme requirements.
- Proactively identify, manage, and remove design blockers, ambiguities, and missing information through formal queries, coordination meetings, and escalation where required.
- Review structural steel design submissions for technical compliance, quality, completeness, and suitability for fabrication and erection, without undertaking detailed design calculations.
- Monitor and drive the engineering design programme, prioritising design deliverables that unlock fabrication, procurement, and site activities.
- Liaise closely with Project Managers, Commercial teams, and Fabrication teams to ensure design aligns with construction sequencing, workshop capacity, and delivery priorities.
- Coordinate with Temporary Works Coordinators and Designers to ensure constructability, erection methodology, and interface with permanent works are fully considered.
- Manage compliance with applicable standards, specifications, and client requirements, ensuring consistent application across all structural steel design packages.
- Support continual improvement of structural steel design management processes, trackers, and coordination practices within the business unit.
Who we are looking for:
- A relevant engineering or construction‑related qualification is preferred, supported by a practical, delivery focused mindset aligned with Murphy’s values
- Proven experience managing structural steel design packages within a contractor or design and build environment.
- Strong understanding of structural steel design principles, fabrication processes, and erection methodologies, without the requirement to act as a practising design engineer.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating internal and external designers, consultants, and specialist subcontractors.
- Strong programme awareness with the ability to drive design progress, prioritise deliverables, and maintain momentum across multiple projects.
- Highly responsive and organised, with the ability to manage competing priorities and unblock issues quickly and effectively.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with confidence working across engineering, commercial, fabrication, and site teams.
- Experience reviewing consultant design outputs and managing design deliverables against scope, programme, and commercial requirements.
